The grass is always greener where there isn’t a defender.
Knowing how to move without the ball is crucial in soccer, and an overlapping run can put you in a great position to score.
Here’s the technique: Two attackers face one defender. Rather than staying beside or behind their teammate, the player without the ball makes a looping run out wide around the dribbler.
This forces the defender to choose between guarding the ball – or the runner. Here’s a hint: They often choose the ball. The attacker with the ball can then pass to their teammate, who has found open space to receive the pass. Ideally, in a better position to score.
